Background

Brad Birchfield has joined Whitaker Chalk Swindle & Schwartz PLLC as of May 1, 2023, and focuses his law practice on intellectual property.

Brad graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University in 1998 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  He graduated cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 2008 with a Juris Doctor.    Brad is licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and the State Bar of Texas as well as the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas, and has appeared in federal courts in Texas, California, and Pennsylvania.  Brad concentrates his law practice in intellectual property including patent prosecution, patent litigation, licensing, and related agreements and transactions.  He has represented clients in aerospace, energy, software, telecommunications, electronics, semiconductor, medical device, internet, and financial services industries.  Brad has significant experience with technologies including:

  • Aerospace/defense industry systems and software
  • Telecommunications network equipment and software
  • Energy industry systems and software
  • Touch screen sensor hardware and software
  • Financial services software and products
  • Internet/Mobile software and products

Prior to his law practice, Brad spent seven years working as an electrical engineer in the telecommunications industry. His work in that field included circuit board design and implementation, software/firmware development and testing, and system integration and verification.

Brad and his wife Jessica have six children and live in Fort Worth, Texas.
